Fátima López was born and raised in Mexico, where she began dancing at age 10
through competitive dance. Fátima participated in regional and national
competitions, including Danzamania and UPA, while simultaneously
beginning her ballet training through the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD).
At 16, Fátima stepped away from competitive dance to pursue a more
performance-based and recreational path, training in ballet, jazz,
lyrical jazz, and contemporary. In 2021, she moved to Saint John, New
Brunswick, to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology at the
University of New Brunswick (UNBSJ). During this time, Fátima joined the
First City School of Dance Young Company, where she broadened her
experience by collaborating with artists and choreographers from
across Canada.
While with Young Company, Fátima was encouraged to create and perform her
own choreographic work in the company’s annual showcase. Fátima has always
enjoyed being involved in diverse dance projects, including
collaborating with Connection Dance Works. With them, she created and
performed her first long-form choreographic piece, followed by a
post-performance discussion at PERSPECTIVE 2022, and also performed at
the Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival.
Beyond New Brunswick, Fátima participated in a week-long intensive with
RUBBERBAND in Montreal in 2024 and attended professional contemporary
dance classes in Toronto in summer 2025. Her artistic practice has also
expanded into film, where she had the opportunity to take on an acting
role in a short film written and directed by Gina Grant.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Fátima relocated to Halifax, Nova
Scotia, in 2025. She continues to grow and train as a dancer while
seeking new performance projects and creative opportunities.
